Pretty Woman Starring Richard Gere and Julia Roberts, Pretty Woman was destined to be a blockbuster. The film's title Pretty Woman is based on the 1964 song "Oh, Pretty Woman" by Roy Orbison. The film was re-imagined as a romantic comedy with a high budget after it was originally supposed to be a gloomy cautionary tale about class and prostitution in Los Angeles. It was the third highest-grossing film of 1990 in terms of box office receipts. The film has the highest amount of ticket sales for a romantic comedy in the United States.
Edward Lewis, a high-powered New York corporate raider, buys and dismantles struggling businesses, then sells the assets for a profit. He had an encounter with a prostitute in the red light area while driving home from a party. She consented to drive with him when he asked for directions to the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel. He then agreed to pay her $3000 and a new wardrobe if she would accompany him around town for the next 6 days. During those 6 days Edward discovered the joy in little things and couldn’t help but fall in love with the gorgeous lady. The movie ends on a perfect note and it is all you would expect from a feel good rom-com.
